BVHS Fall Play Harvey

Harvey, a Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy by Mary Chase, is the story of a perfect gentleman, Elwood P. Dowd (Peter Som), and his best friend, Harvey -- a pooka, who is a six-foot tall, invisible rabbit. When Elwood begins introducing Harvey around town, his embarrassed sister, Veta Louise (Harlie Rader), and her daughter, Myrtle Mae (Anika Craft), determine to commit Elwood to a sanitarium. A mistake is made, however, and Veta is committed rather than Elwood! Eventually, the mistake is realized, and a frantic search begins for Elwood and the invisible pooka, which ends with Elwood appearing, voluntarily, at the sanitarium. In the end, however, Veta realizes that she loves her brother and his invisible his best friend just as they are, and doesn’t want either of them to change.

PayForIt Questions? Baron

There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding the new point of sale system we recently upgraded to.  Below is bullet point of facts that will be helpful:

1.) Nutrikids (MySchoolBucks) is no longer being used for online payments for school lunches. The new system (PayForIt) can be found on the Buckeye Valley website under the parents tab. (Or click HERE) This link will take you to the site to pay for your child's school meals and fees.

2.) Any money that was previously applied to Nurtrikds and any balances from last school year have been transferred over to the new system.

3.)You will need to register for a new account with PayForIt using your child's Powerschool ID number.

Any questions please call Stacy Peterson, Food Service Supervisor at 740-363-1349 ext 4013

Baronettes & Visions Update Baronettes Superior

The Baronettes

The Baronettes, Buckeye Valley High School’s Select Women's Choir, went to Granville HS recently for District Contest. They were judged 'Superior' by all 3 stage judges and qualified for State Contest in late April. The BVHS Choral Department continues their excellence in performances at home and in many venues across the state. Congratulations to these wonderful ladies for representing BVHS so well!!

Visions

Visions

Buckeye Valley Visions wrapped up a hugely successful competition season by qualifying for their third straight finals competition on Saturday March 18th at Sheridan HS. In Division 2, Visions captured Best Vocals and 1st Runner-Up.

Visions were also awarded the highly coveted Best Show Design Award, chosen from the 17 schools in the competition. As if that’s not enough, out of more than 400 participating students, freshman standout, Peter Som, took Best Male Dancer Award!

Only the 6 highest scores from daytime competition qualify for the evening Finals Competition. After the daytime competition, Visions was sitting in 4th place, qualifying them for Finals. During the nighttime competition, Visions Singer/Dancers, Combo and Crew had their best performance of the season!!! BV moved from 4th Place in the prelims to finish 2nd Place in the Finals Competition!

What a wonderful representation of Buckeye Valley for the day and the entire season! Visions’ students worked extremely hard this year and that work paid off. The BV Community can be proud of their own BV Visions as they continue the excellence that has become identified with the BVHS Vocal Music program. Well done, students!!

Elementary School Bond Issue Update

Buckeye Valley Families,

I wanted to let you know that I was informed that this morning by the Delaware County Board of Elections that, although still not “certified”, the recent vote regarding the elementary school bond issue has resulted in a tie (3312 votes both “for” and “against”).  I am pleased that we made up 19 votes but sure wish it could have been a few more.  What’s next?  After the vote is certified next week, an automatic recount will be initiated.  My sincere hope is that at the conclusion of the recount the “For” votes will prevail and the district can begin to focus its efforts on the design and construction of new elementary facilities for our students.   Continued positive thoughts are appreciated!

Elementary Bond Issue Update

Buckeye Valley Community -  I wanted to share that the Elementary Bond Issue that was voted on yesterday appears to not have passed by a very slim margin (19 votes).  It is my understanding that “provisional” ballots have not been factored in, as well as any “absentee” ballots that arrived late but were post-marked correctly.  Ultimately, depending on the final for/against margin a “recount” is a possibility so “official” results may not be known for several weeks.

If the narrow defeat stands, to say the results are disheartening would be an understatement.  I felt extremely good about the process used to determine the ballot issue, the merits of the issue itself, as well as the efforts by the campaign committee to get the word out.  Many BV citizens took part in the facilities process and your efforts have not gone unnoticed.  Certainly, if the results stand, the need for improved elementary facilities has not gone away and I will continue working diligently with the Board of Education to examine possible options for what might come next.    I ask that the BV community stay positive as the process to determine the “official” results plays itself out.  Stay focused on doing great things for our students and Go Barons!

Sincerely,

Andrew Miller, Superintendent

Elementary Bond Issue Update

BV Parents and Families,

I wanted to share that the Elementary Bond Issue that was voted on yesterday did not pass by an overwhelming margin (75% against).  Thank you to those that voted as it provides the district feedback, whether it was the outcome we had hoped for or not.  The community has spoken and obviously the renovation of the three elementary buildings was not the option that they wanted.  That being said, the issue of addressing/upgrading the elementary facilities has not gone away.  I wanted to share that I will be working diligently with the Board of Education to examine possible avenues to help engage the community to get feedback that will help to provide an elementary facilities option that can be supported by the majority.  Specifics regarding how you can get involved in the community engagement process will be out in the very near future.  This will be tough work, but the time for the community to pull together for the benefit of our students starts today!  Go Barons!

Sincerely,

Andrew Miller, Superintendent

Turn Around Assembly for Freshmen-Date Changed
On Tuesday Oct. 29th at 9:30am, all Freshmen students will attend an assembly called "Turn Around".   The program will be presented by West Central Community Correctional Facility which is an alternative to prison incarceration with a structured intervention program to reduce criminal behaviors.  West Central is a 6-month treatment program for men and women who might otherwise spend their felony sentence in prison.  95% of the residents at West Central have alcohol and/or drug abuse issues which have led to their felony convictions.  One of the activities utilized in this facility is a skit/role play titled "Turn Around".  This is a non speaking activity that last approximately 4 minutes.  The role play depicts how easily a person can turn to alcohol and drugs as a way to mask emotional pain.  At the conclusion of the role play, the individuals that participated in the activity step forward one at a time to share their personal story.  They discuss what happened in their teenage years that lead them to be trapped in addiction.  Male and female residents participate and their stories have been edited and rehearsed with staff to ensure that it is appropriate material to share with a teenage audience.

Recently, WWII Veterans George Peto, Joe Dodge and Phil Vonville visted Doug Joseph's American History classes to share their experiences . All are able to truly bring "history alive" for the students because they lived what has been studied in class the last several weeks. Their stories add tremendous realism to the class discussions and range from specific combat experiences, surviving the 130 degree weather with no water or food, to surviving  an air "hit" and landing the plane.
